Diagram 13.10 Observations: - The sagittal suture separating the posterior ends of the parietal bones appears to have fused from the supra-occipital bone to nearly as far as the frontal bone, i.e. the entire length of the sagittal suture appears to have fused, only a slight trace of the suture is visible near the coronal suture (A). - The lambdoidal suture is well marked and deeply serrated however there is no sign of a preinter parietal (small wormian bone sometimes formed at the site of the lambda. - The external occipital protuberance is marked. - The right parietal bone appears to have been punctured before burial as the edges of the damaged area appear blunted with the passage of time, also there are stains on the interior surfaces of the parietal and adjoining bones that radiate from the punctured hole. This suggests that the interior of the skull filled with sand as far as the level of the hole. The sand covered areas being clean while the upper empty part of the interior of the skull remained stained. ILLUSTRATION NOTE: The illustrated form opposite has been traced from the actual specimen, and is not to be taken as completely accurate. Diagram 13.11 has been produced by solar projection methods and is far more accurate. The light lines in the Diagram opposite indicating the individual fracture lines where the specimen has been glued. This Diagram is then to be considered as a rough plan only. |
