It was found about 5 meters north of the test pit *1 site. It appears to have made from a very porous vesicular Lava which appears a rusty colour and may in fact be iron rich (and rusted). This sinker deviates somewhat from other Tubuai specimens in that the groove does not extend fully to the back and the ends appear somewhat flattened, thus the shape (as viewed from above) is a rather more quadrangular-oval. Its presence at the AHDAPOFATU site confirms the the important correspondence and artifact similarity between this and the TEADA Site where 2 other similar coffee bean shaped sinkers have been recovered as well as other 'early' artifacts. |
